Mysore Palace ( 4.5 Km From THE RED LOTUS)

Mysore Palace

The official residence of the Wodeyars, the Mysore Palace is situated in the heart of the city. The construction of the Palace was completed in 1912. Tourists are allowed to go inside the Palace after paying a certain amount of fees. The architecture of the Palace is what is known as Indo-Saracenic which is a mixture of Hindu, Muslim, Rajput and Gothic architectural styles. It's a three story building with marble domes and gardens. The two bronze leopards at the entrance of the palace are another attraction. The inside of the palace is converted into a museum and houses various artefacts from the Maharaja times.

Chamundi Hills( 1.2 Km From THE RED LOTUS)

Chamundi Hills is close to the palace city of Mysore. Its average elevation is 1,000 meters. A panoramic view of the city is seen from the top of the hills. Among other landmarks, you can see the race course, the Lalitha Mahal palace, Mysore Palace, Karanji and Kukkarahalli lakes. At dusk, the view of the city is especially beautiful, and on Sunday evenings and during the Dasara festival, the illuminated Mysore Palace glitters like gold.

Brindavan Gardens ( 20 Km From THE RED LOTUS)

Brindavan Gardens is a show garden that has a beautiful botanical park, full of exciting fountains, as well as boat rides beneath the dam. Diwans of Mysore planned and built the gardens in connection with the construction of the dam. Display items include a musical fountain. Various biological research departments are housed here. There is a guest house for tourists. It is situated at Krishna Raja Sagara dam.

Mysore Zoo was originally created in 1892 on 10 acres (4.0 ha) of the summer palace of Maharaja Chamaraja Wodeyar, and was originally called the Palace Zoo. The zoo was originally set up by G.H. Krumbeigal, a German landscaper and horticulturist. Over the next 10 years the zoo was expanded to 45 acres (18 ha) with spacious enclosures that are still in use.

Lalitha Mahal is the second largest palace in Mysore. It is located near the Chamundi Hills, east of the city.The architect of this palace was Mr E W Fritchley. The palace was built by Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV in the year 1921 for the exclusive stay of the Viceroy of India. The palace is pure white in colour and is built in the style of Italian palazzo with twin Ionic columns and domes.It also has a sprawling terrace and landscaped gardens.The Palace is situated 11kms from Mysore city on top of a small hillock. This Palace is set in the middle of sprawling terraced gardens.

Jaganmohan Palace( 4 Km From THE RED LOTUS)

150 years old, this palace is still being used for a variety of programmes ranging from cultural events during various occasions to many governmental events. The construction of the Jaganmohan Palace was completed in the year 1861. This palace was used as the residence of the royal family when the Mysore Palace was burnt down to ground level in a fire in 1897 till it was reconstructed in 1910.The royal hall was used as the venue for the Representative Assembly after 1923. Then it was also used for the convocation by the Mysore University.

This museum is located near the Mysore Railway station and is the second one of its kind established in India after the one at Delhi. This museum exhibits ancient locomotives and carriages some of which are still in working condition. Photographs and books related to railway are also present.A striking feature of the museum is the Chamundi Gallery that showcases a distinctive and interesting collection of photographs and paintings portraying the growth of the railways.

St. Philomena's Church( 5 Km From THE RED LOTUS)

St. Philomena's Church :is a church built in the honour of St. Philomena in the city of Mysore. It was constructed in 1956 using a Neo Gothic style and its architecture was inspired by the Cologne Cathedral in Germany. In 1926, Thamboo Chetty who was a secretary to the Maharaja of Mysore, Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar obtained a relic of the saint from Peter Pisani, Apostolic Delegate of the East Indies. This relic was handed over to Father Cochet who approached the king to assist him in constructing a church in honour of St. Philomena.
